The Roof - Staining

During August, 2003 the roof required staining.  Dustin managed and completed the project.  There is a "special" ladder from the prior owners used to reach the peaks of the roof.  The angles of the various section of the cottage roof are at perilous angles.  Lana took the following photos.  These photos will also serve as a guide for ladder placement for future years of roof staining.  The roof stain is a mixture of peppercorn and cobalt blue.  It took hours of evaluation to determine how to place the ladder for the last section of work.

Dustin said this was one of the easier sections of the roof to complete. The ladder was very difficult to move due to its weight and height.

August 17, 2003

Dustin continues to work on the rear side of the cottage. That ladder is incredibly difficult to move. Also, keep in mind the ladder is resting on an old English style stone walkway!

Yes, that is Dustin! He is using the 3rd floor balcony to reach some of the highest peaks of the roof.

Dustin is reaching the steep peaks of the 2nd floor roof from the balcony area of the 3rd floor. Good thing Dustin is tall!.

More stretching from the 3rd floor to reach that 2nd floor section of the roof.

August 28, 2003

This was the most difficult area. It took a few days of evaluation to determine how to place the ladder to reach the top peak without causing an accident. Finally, Dustin determined the method and began the final stretch of the project.

This was the most difficult area. This photo shows the length of the ladder, the sharp angle of the roof.

August 28, 2003

See the rope tied to the top of the ladder? That rope is tied to a big old tree on the back side of the house! Dustin is almost done!!!
